School Counseling Mission and Vision Statement

Vision: All students at Wilson Wims Elementary have the tools necessary to be kind, productive members of a global community.

Mission: The mission of Wilson Wims is to provide equitable access to a data informed comprehensive school counseling program that helps all students achieve their full potential. The program helps all students become academically prepared, demonstrate responsibility and show a love for learning by delivering activities promoting positive academic, career and social/emotional development.

Classroom Lessons
Lessons will be presented each month in classrooms for students in grades K-5.   This year, we will also focus on 12 Tools from the Toolbox. Lessons will be developmentally appropriate, preventative lessons to all children on topics such as: social skills, self-esteem, feelings, diversity, anger, and the connection between school and the world of work.  In all grade levels, Personal Body Safety lessons will be delivered to students as well. These lessons will focus on keeping children safe. More information will come home prior to lessons be delivered. Towards the end of the year, we will take a month and focus on careers. We will use this month to work with children developmentally and talk with them about the purpose of why they are in school.
Small Groups and Individual Students

Small Groups Counseling

Group counseling will be offered throughout the school year.  The groups generally range from 6-8 students and last for about 6 sessions. Group topics depend on the needs of the students, but can range from social skills, to anger management, separation/divorce, or grief.   The students for groups can be recommended by parents/guardians, or by staff members. Permission slips must be signed in order for a student to participate in a group.

Individual Counseling

One-on-one counseling support is available to all Wilson Wims students.  This support is intended to address specific emotional, behavioral, or social concerns.  Students may self-refer or be referred to the counselor by teachers and/or parents.  Indvidual counseling is not therapy.

Consultations

We are available to have meetings with teachers, administrators, and/or parents to discuss the needs of students. We are both here for all students and want to ensure that your child has a productive and positive school year! Please feel free to contact Sheri Snyder or Danielle Luckett to set up a meeting.
